The ten "doors" or connections between[lang id =1028]事 and [lang id =1028]理; [lang id =1028]事 is defined as [lang id =1028]現象 form and [lang id =1028]理 as [lang id =1028]本體 substance; the common illustration of wave and water indicates the idea thus expressed. The [lang id =1028]理事無礎十門 means that in ten ways form and substance are not separate, unconnected entities.(1) (zh) li the substance is always present with shih the phenomena;(2) (zh) shih is always present with (zh) li;(3) (zh) shih depends on (zh) li for its existence;(4) the (zh) shih can reveal the (zh) li;(5) the (zh) shih (mere form, which is unreal) can disappear in the (zh) li;(6) the (zh) shih can conceal the (zh) li;(7) the true (zh) li is the (zh) shih;(8) the (zh) shih is (zh) li;(9) the true (zh) li (or reality) is not the (zh) shih;(10) the (zh) shih is not the (whole) (zh) li; v. [lang id =1028]周遍含容觀十門 The fifth of the five [lang id =1028]觀 meditations of the [lang id =1028]華嚴宗, i.e. on (zh) li and (zh) shih, e.g.(1) the (zh) li is as the (zh) shih;(2) the (zh) shih is as the (zh) li; [lang id =1028]理如事, [lang id =1028]事如理 and so on. The [lang id =1028]止觀十門 in the [lang id =1028]宗鏡録35, also deals with (zh) li and (zh) shih chiefly for purposes of meditation. Another group, the [lang id =1028]華嚴釋經十門, treats of the Canon and the schools.
